The learning objectives for the phd program are that the student should have evidence that they are:
1) Able to search the scientific literature and produce an up-to-date and appropriate statement of the state of knowledge in a scientific field.
2) Able to innovate successfully new methods in scientific research and implement them out in a reproducible manner.
3) Able to generate new knowledge, interpret it and relate it to existing information through original research which is of publishable quality as demonstrated through the peer review process.
4) Able to present and defend work using written and verbal methods.

6) Able to be independently-direct their learning, make decisions, acquire new skills, knowledge, to manage and progress their career.
7) Able to analyse information, derive conclusions, independently-produce ideas and hypotheses and design, plan and carry out procedures to test these.

9) Capable of demonstrating original thought and creativity.
10) Able to communicate effectively in written and verbal modes.
11) Familiar with the ethical, health and safety aspects of their area of work and the requirements for confidentiality, and data security.
